Gervonta Davis is often linked to a number of his fellow pound-for-pound superstars.

The WBA lightweight champion has beaten several big names in his career so far, including Ryan Garcia and Leo Santa Cruz, and now returns to action in March when he defends his belt against Lamont Roach.

‘Tank’ surprised many boxing fans when he announced that he plans to retire at the end of 2025, meaning that time is running out to see him step into the ring with the elite in the 135lb division if he stays true to his word.

That means potential clashes with the likes of Shakur Stevenson or Vasily Lomachenko, but there is another fighter that Davis once claimed would be his dream fight in the sport.

That man is Naoya Inoue, the Japanese superstar who has become a multi-weight world champion, along with undisputed at both bantamweight and super-bantamweight.

He retained his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles on Friday with a fourth round knockout win against Ye Joon Kim, and is now expected to return to action in the Spring.

It didn’t take long for some fans to suggest that Davis and Inoue should meet this year, and while ‘Tank’ may have teased the fight in the past, he needed just three words to react on social media when it was put to him again.

“What the f**k.”

He then explained why he doesn’t understand why his name is always brought up as a potential opponent for everyone.

“I’m the only fighter you all want to see in the ring with everybody. Doesn’t matter the weight.”

The weight difference between Davis and Inoue makes a fight highly unlikely to ever happen, and instead ‘Tank’ has revealed his wish list for who he wants to fight before he hangs up the gloves.
