Gervonta Davis returns to action this week.
He makes the latest defence of his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, looking to claim another impressive victory that extends his undefeated record.
‘Tank’ has a current record of 30-0, with 28 of those wins coming by knockout, having stopped the likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Rolly Romero and Frank Martin in his career so far.
Davis shocked the boxing world a few months ago when he announced he plans to retire at the end of 2025. Should he make good on that promise, it has led to boxing fans once again speculating who ‘Tank’ could face before he hangs up the gloves, with the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Vasiliy Lomachenko mentioned as potential opponents.
There is one man that Davis isn’t keen on fighting though, telling told The Jay Hill Podcast that he doesn’t see any reason to take on Devin Haney.
“What is there to prove? There’s nothing to prove. You know what I would do to Devin. There’s no point in fighting him.”
Haney is the former undisputed lightweight champion and also claimed world honours at super-lightweight, but his career suffered a big setback when he was dropped multiple times on his way to a points defeat to Ryan Garcia last April.
The result was overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance, with Haney and ‘King Ry’ set for a rematch later this year, provided they can both come through interim bouts in May. For Haney, that is Jose Ramirez while Garcia will face Romero.
