A sparring partner of Gervonta Davis has made a shock admission about the punching power of the unbeaten three-weight world champion.
Since making his professional debut back in February of 2013, ‘Tank’ Davis has gone on to defeat 30 of the opponents that he has shared the ring with, racking up no less than 28 stoppage victories along the way.
The 30-year-old is set to make his return to the ring later this year when he faces YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
One man that has had experience in sparring the unbeaten American in recent years is David Sparks, who spent some time in the gym with Davis a number of years ago.
Speaking on Let The Sparks Fly, Sparks sensationally claimed that he believes ‘Tank’ is more than capable of knocking a heavyweight fighter out with his thunderous punching power, but does admit that he cannot see his former sparring partner getting a stoppage victory over Paul.
“If [Tank] catch Jake Paul with a clean shot, he’s very well capable of knocking him out. Do I think it’s gonna happen? I don’t think it’s gonna happen, but he’s very well capable of knocking Jake Paul out. He’s not too small.
“I seen Tank stop all his sparring partners. I’m talking about some dudes big like heavyweight, middleweight — Tank stopping them. If he catch a big man with a shot, he putting him out. I seen it with my own two eyes.”
There have been some concerns raised about Davis stepping into the ring with someone Paul’s size, especially considering the WBA lightweight champion stands at eight inches shorter than his fellow countryman.
He also weighed in at over 60 pounds lighter in his last bout compared to what ‘The Problem Child’ tipped the scales at in his last ring appearance against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in June.
