Gervonta Davis Urged To Move Up In Weight To Challenge Pound For Pound Star Next

Gervonta Davis has been urged to move up in weight and pursue a showdown with an unbeaten world champion next.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore has been out of action since he fought to a majority decision draw against countryman Lamont Roach Jr back in March, successfully retaining his WBA lightweight title in the process.

‘Tank’ was then due to make his return to the ring last month but his planned exhibition clash with Jake Paul was cancelled after he found himself at the center of a domestic violence allegation.

It remains to be seen whether the unbeaten American star is in line to make a comeback any time soon, with reports suggesting that Davis could announce his retirement from the sport before the end of 2025.

Should he opt to continue with his career however, ‘Tank’ has been urged to pursue a potential clash with newly-crowned WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney in the near future.

In footage shared by Fight Hub TV, Haney’s father and trainer Bill revealed that ‘The Dream’ is targeting a match-up with Davis at some stage next year.

“Coach Calvin [Ford], Coach [Ellis], Team Tank Davis, I got some good news and I got some bad news. The good news is Devin bought me another Mercedes. Another one.

“The bad news is the Grinch didn’t buy you guys one, but ‘Deebo’ is looking for him and he’s on the list. So let’s see if in 2026 you can’t influence your man to be more like [Devin].”

Haney put on an outstanding performance against countryman Brian Norman Jr in Riyadh on November 22 to capture the WBO crown at 147lbs and become a world champion in a third weight class.
