Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia recently appeared to patch things up, but the promotional relationship has taken another turn for the worse.
De La Hoya and Garcia’s relationship had previously unraveled into a bitter public and legal feud. Once a rising star under Golden Boy Promotions, Garcia began voicing frustration after his 2023 knockout loss to Gervonta Davis, accusing De La Hoya of abandoning him post-fight.
De La Hoya, in turn, criticised Garcia’s preparation and professionalism. Their back-and-forth on social media escalated into a war of words, with Garcia accusing his promoter of caring more about money than fighters, while De La Hoya suggested Garcia lacked maturity.
The tension eventually spilled into court, with De La Hoya suing Garcia for breach of contract, and Garcia demanding mediation, claiming Golden Boy was defaming rather than promoting him. Separate legal trouble also emerged when a lawsuit alleged Garcia faked an injury to skip an exhibition bout in Japan.
Despite the drama, De La Hoya continues to shape Garcia’s fight trajectory – recently ruling out a rematch with Devin Haney and pushing instead for a potential Rolando Romero rematch to rebuild Garcia’s stock.
Things seemed well when the fighter suffered that shock loss to ‘Rolly’ Romero, with the promoter backing him to bounce back. However, all is not well behind the scenes once more.
This weekend, Garcia sent targeted posts De La Hoya’s way.
“I know why Oscar is a bitch in people’s eyes and that’s facts. I can’t wait till I’m way from that fake bitch. Ima turn up and win just like I did against all his bitch ass fighters.”
In a separate post, he said simply, “f**k Golden Boy promotions.” De La Hoya then responded by leaking a text message sent to him by the 26-year-old, which read:
“First of all f**k you, especially you for one disrespectful me with that s****y contract [because] I lost but I’m your actual only current star fighter. You can suck a d**k and I know you already do. So f**k you. You can kiss my ass. I’ll beat Rolly’s ass and whoever. I can’t wait till I go against you again like I did with [Oscar] Duarte and … to see your stupid ass face again looking stupid f**k you and that stupid offer b***h I’ll slap the f**k outta you just like Canelo and Berlanga.”
De La Hoya posted the screenshot of the message with the following commentary:
“Unfortunately Ryan Garcia is having another episode. Ten days ago he’s talking about God and finding his path, then tonight he sends me this rant while watching his fellow Golden Boy fighters win. Bipolar disorder is very serious and I hope he gets the help he needs.”
