Oscar De La Hoya Called Out By Fellow Hall Of Fame Fighter For Ring Return: “I’ve Got To Have Him”

Oscar De La Hoya is being targeted for a showdown against a retired pound-for-pound star.

The legendary fighter-turned-promoter had an exceptional professional career of his own which began back in 1992, just months after he captured a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

De La Hoya would go on to win multiple world titles across six weight classes throughout the course of his tenure, defeating the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker and Hector Camacho amongst many other highly rated fighters.

After he was beaten by Manny Pacquiao at the end of 2008, De La Hoya would announce his retirement shortly after to focus on his career as a promoter under the banner of ‘Golden Boy Promotions’, the company he founded back in 2002.

In an interview with Aliyah Orozco, retired three-division world champion Shane Mosley claimed that he would be open to an exhibition bout against De La Hoya, although he believes ‘The Golden Boy’ would be reluctant to face him.

“Of course, of course. Oscar don’t wanna fight me though, he won’t fight me. I’d ask Oscar ‘Let’s do an exhibition’ … I’d be like ‘Why?’, but [Felix] Trinidad wants an exhibition with him too, Trinidad told me he wants the exhibition with Oscar, but I’m like ‘But Trin I want him first’, I gotta have him first.”

Mosley actually faced De La Hoya twice during his professional career, defeating his countryman on both occasions in 2000 and 2003 respectively.

‘Sugar Shane’ makes his return to the ring later this month when he faces actor David Khurzal in London on Friday July 25.
