Oscar De La Hoya Names The Boxing Legend Who Would Beat Him Even At His Peak

Oscar De La Hoya has revealed the one fighter in particular that would have beaten him during his prime years.

‘The Golden Boy’ had an exceptional professional career of his own, winning multiple world titles across six weight divisions before his retirement in 2009.

He shared the ring with a number of generational greats along the way, including the likes of American superstar Floyd Mayweather and Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao who defeated ‘The Golden Boy’ in the 45th and final bout of his tenure.

Since drawing the curtain on his boxing career, De La Hoya has moved on to be a successful promoter under the ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ banner where he has worked with fighters such as Canelo Alvarez and Vergil Ortiz Jr.

In a resurfaced feature with The Daily Mail, De La Hoya acknowledged that the late-great Sugar Ray Robinson would have been the one fighter capable of defeating him even at his formidable best.

Robinson is widely considered to be one of, if not the greatest overall fighter to have ever laced up a pair of gloves, an opinion that is shared by fans and analysts around the globe.

The Georgia-native fought on no less than 201 occasions throughout the course of his storied tenure, reigning as a world champion at both welterweight and middleweight along the way.

He held the world welterweight championship for five years between 1946 and 1951 before making the move up to middleweight where he won the world title on five separate occasions within a nine-year period.
