Oscar De La Hoya Has No Doubt Who’s Better Between Mayweather And Crawford: “He’s Far Superior”

Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford are widely considered to be the greatest fighters of their respective generations.

‘Money’ Mayweather took the sport by storm throughout his decorated 21-year professional boxing career, winning world titles in five weight classes whilst racking up victories over the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto to name just a few.

As for ‘Bud’ Crawford, the 37-year-old from Omaha is 42 fights into what has been an outstanding professional career to date. He recently wrote his name into the boxing history books when he defeated Mexican icon Canelo to become the first male fighter in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three divisions.

It has led to debates within the boxing world of who is deemed to be better between Mayweather and Crawford, and now legendary fighter-turned-promoter De La Hoya has had his say.

Speaking to Fight Hype, De La Hoya admitted that he disagrees with the claims made by Canelo that Crawford is actually a better fighter than Mayweather, as he says his former rival is ‘much more superior’ than ‘Bud’.

“I have to disagree because Floyd Mayweather toyed with Canelo, like he literally toyed with him, he didn’t get hit at all, not one time and Crawford, yeah he’s more of a fighter-boxer, Mayweather’s more of a boxer, but I have to disagree.

“I think Mayweather is much more superior than Crawford, not just because he beat me and it was a close fight, or that I stepped in the ring with Mayweather but I really feel that technically Mayweather’s a better fighter.”

De La Hoya was one of the legendary opponents that Mayweather defeated during his tenure when they clashed for the WBC light-middleweight title back in May 2007, a closely fought bout saw Mayweather triumph by split decision.
