Terence Crawford made history by defeating Canelo Alvarez to become undisputed super-middleweight champion on Saturday.

The mega-fight took place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and saw Crawford moving up two weight divisions to take on Alvarez.

‘Bud’ was an underdog heading into the bout, but he was able to prove the doubters wrong as he claimed a unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring the fight 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113.

The victory means that Crawford has now become the first male fighter to ever become undisputed in three separate divisions, having already achieved it at super-lightweight and welterweight prior to this.

It was the first time that Canelo has tasted defeat at 168lbs, and it hasn’t taken Oscar De La Hoya long to have his say on the performance of the Mexican superstar.

Legendary fighter-turned-promoter De La Hoya guided the career of Canelo under the Golden Boy Promotions banner for a number of years, but after parting ways the pair are now bitter enemies.

Posting on social media, De La Hoya was quick to seemingly criticise Canelo by stating ‘I told you’, having predicted in the build-up to the fight that he thought Crawford would win a decision and that he felt Alvarez was slow and past his best.

“I told you motherf**kers. What did you just watch? I only speak the facts.”

Though De La Hoya did say pre-fight there was a chance Canelo could get the stoppage, the prediction he is likely referring to here is:

“It might be another Mayweather vs. Canelo. Remember when Mayweather was just schooling him and making him look silly? That can happen again this Saturday. Everything has to be perfect for Crawford… He has to stay disciplined.”

Speculation has already begun over what both Crawford and Canelo will now do next, with many fans believing it may be the perfect time for ‘Bud’ to sail off into the sunset, whilst also feeling that Canelo may be out of his prime and should hang up the gloves.
