Oscar De La Hoya has spoken out ahead of the highly-anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the domestic rivals will lock horns once again on Saturday September 20 at an unconfirmed venue in London, although the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks set to place host once again.

Their first encounter, which took place back in April, was a fiery affair from start to finish and lived up to the expectations that had been set during the chaotic build-up.

Eubank pipped Benn on the night, defeating the 28-year-old via unanimous decision with all three of the judges scorecards reading 116-112, although some viewers felt that the cards should have even closer.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya outlined his concerns towards the rematch taking place so soon, as he claims another ‘intense’ battle between the pair could be detrimental to their respective careers.

“These rematches with these types of intense fights taking place like Conor and Eubank, a rematch right away will probably end their career, it’s that intense. So look, they have their own careers to deal with, I deal with my fighters, I take care of my fighters.”

There had been a number of concerns in the lead-up to their first bout, primarily around Eubank’s extreme weight-cut which saw him making use of a sauna up until the night before the fight took place.

It has been reported over the last couple of weeks that there will be a number of changes implemented ahead of the rematch, as the bitter rivals gear up for another legacy defining fight.
