Oscar De La Hoya has answered just whether or not Ryan Garcia could step in for Gervonta Davis to take on Jake Paul.
Paul and Davis were set to meet in an exhibition contest on Friday 14 November, but after a new civil lawsuit was filed against ‘Tank’ in the past few days, the bout is now in serious doubt.
Paul’s promotional outfit MVP have already confirmed that they are exploring all options about whether or not to proceed with the fight, with a number of opponents reported to have been approached about potentially replacing Davis.
One man that has been linked is former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia, who actually fought ‘Tank’ himself back in April 2023, suffering a seventh round stoppage loss.
While he may have also come up short in his last fight against Rolly Romero in May, Garcia still remains a huge name in boxing, and has spoken in the past about his desire to face Paul.
Despite that, Garcia’s promoter De La Hoya has now revealed on social media that a bout between Paul and ‘King Ry’ will not be taking place.
“I wake up to calls from reporters asking about Jake Paul and Ryan Garcia. Let me tell you why this fight isn’t going to happen. Ryan Garcia fights for DAZN and Jake Paul fights on Netflix. I mean that’s pretty much the bottom line.
“Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN, and Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy, and that’s just the way it is. I mean this is business. Ryan Garcia is probably going to go on a rant saying you’re keeping me from making money and this and that. No, you have to go by the law and by the rules.
“You have a contract with DAZN and Golden Boy. It doesn’t happen that way. Ryan Garcia’s next fight will be announced by me, who he’s fighting and when he’s fighting next.”
It means that Paul may have to search elsewhere for his next opponent, and a former world heavyweight champion has also been linked to the bout.
