Oscar De La Hoya Sums Up Floyd Mayweather’s Power Perfectly In Just 3 Words

Oscar De La Hoya is one of 50 fighters that failed to add a blemish to the unbeaten record of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The Golden Boy’ put his WBC super welterweight title on the line against Mayweather in May 2007, falling short in a 12-round split decision defeat. Despite starting the contest positively, De La Hoya seemed to fade during the later stages which allowed ‘Money’ to get the nod on the judges scorecards via a split decision.

Mayweather was the smarter of the two on the night, making ‘The Golden Boy’ miss with his shots on a number of occasions throughout. It was the 38th consecutive career victory for ‘Money’, who had already won world titles in three divisions by that point.

Speaking on Club Shay Shay, De La Hoya was discussing Mayweather’s pedigree, where he responded to claims that his former opponent did not have adequate punching power – ‘he has power’.

“Oh he has power. I mean he didn’t hurt me but he has power. I have a good chin, [Manny] Pacquiao didn’t hurt me, Bernard [Hopkins] didn’t hurt me, I mean he caught me with that body shot. I have a good chin but Floyd does have power.”

‘Money’ Mayweather retired from boxing having won all 50 of his professional fights, as well as capturing world titles in five weight classes. His 50th and final outing came against MMA legend Conor McGregor, stopping the Irishman in the tenth round.

Since exiting the professional ranks, the 47-year-old has had a number of exhibition contests, facing the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa and Aaron Chalmers. Mayweather has left the door open for a return to the ring in 2025, although this is yet to be confirmed.
