Oscar De La Hoya Gives Verdict On Mayweather vs Pacquiao Fight Being In Doubt

Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the ongoing controversy between former rivals Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are set to face each other for the second time later this year, with the legendary duo planned to lock horns on September 19 at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

‘Money’ Mayweather prevailed in their first encounter back in May of 2015 when he defeated the Filipino great via unanimous decision to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO world welterweight titles.

Whilst it had been initially reported that the rematch would be a sanctioned professional bout, Mayweather recently claimed that the fight is in fact an exhibition, something that Pacquiao has denied.

Speaking on social media, De La Hoya weighed in on the matter as he urges former rival Mayweather to ‘fight a real fight’ instead of trying to protect his unbeaten record.

“I wasn’t gonna do a clapback but all the news on Mayweather [vs] Pacquiao potentially falling apart. I mean, I have to say this. Floyd, come on dude. Fight a real fight.

“You’re still trying to protect your 0? Yes you’re 50 and 0 on paper but people know you’ve lost. S–t, your own father said you lost against me back when we fought. And what’s crazy is that people don’t know that we had a rematch clause for one year, and what do you do? Your pussy a– retires for one year and one day.”

Mayweather is due to make a return to the ring prior to his rematch with Pacquiao, with the 49-year-old in line for exhibitions against fellow legend Mike Tyson, before then facing kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Greece this June. However, Manny Pacquiao Promotions says the event against Zambidis is a breach of contract, further confusing matters.
