Oscar De La Hoya Has No Doubt Who Wins Prime Mayweather vs Prime Pacquiao: “He Beats Him Easy”

Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao was billed as The Fight of the Century.

The contest took place back in 2015 and had been on the cards for many years. Both boxers were multi-weight world champions but were never able to agree on terms for their super fight until many believed it was too late in the day.

Mayweather won the fight on points by using his feet to stay away from Pacquiao and score from the outside.

Oscar De La Hoya has fought and lost to both men and, speaking to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, was asked who he thinks would have won had the fight happened earlier.

“Pacquiao would have beaten him easily. In their prime? Absolutely.”

He then admitted that he thinks Pacquiao’s hard-fought career took its toll and is what held him back on the night.

“I’ll tell you the truth – I’ll give Floyd the advantage over Manny any day because Manny has been in wars. Manny has fought better opposition in their prime. He has more wear and tear.

He has had a longer, better career than Floyd and Floyd fights once a year. He takes care of himself. He trains all the time, so Floyd is fresher. He doesn’t fight like Manny. Pacquiao gets hit and keeps coming. That just wears you down. So I have to give Floyd the advantage, as much as I love Pacquiao.”

Despite not having fought since losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2022, ‘PacMan’ could well be on the verge of a sensational comeback against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
