Legendary fighter-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes there is one fighter in particular that is even greater than Terence Crawford.

‘Bud’ Crawford has proved himself to be arguably the greatest fighter of his generation in recent weeks after he defeated Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship on September 13.

The 38-year-old from Omaha put on an outstanding display against Canelo at a sold-out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.

Although Crawford has enjoyed exceptional success throughout the course of his professional career, six-time world champion De La Hoya believes there is one former world champion in particular that eclipses the Omaha-native.

Speaking to the media, ‘The Golden Boy’ claimed that the legendary Floyd Mayweather is ‘much more superior’ than Crawford, admitting that he believes his former rival is a technically better fighter than his countryman.

“Crawford is more of a fighter boxer, and Mayweather is more of a boxer. But Mayweather is much more superior than Crawford. I feel that technically, Mayweather is the better fighter.”

‘Money’ Mayweather is considered to be not only one of the best fighters of his generation, but arguably the greatest fighter to have ever laced up a pair of gloves.

The Michigan-native captured world titles across five weight classes during his storied 21-year tenure, defeating the likes of De La Hoya, Canelo, Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao before announcing his retirement from the professional side of the sport in 2017.
