Oscar De La Hoya Reacts To Floyd Mayweather’s Pro Boxing Return As Pacquiao 2 Announced

Floyd Mayweatheris in line to make a sensational return to professional boxing this year, nine years on from his final ring appearance.

The 48-year-old from Michigan drew the curtain on his career back in 2017, just a few months after he stopped UFC fighter Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their crossover clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather remained unbeaten for the entire duration of his 50-fight tenure, winning world titles across five weight divisions along the way whilst producing career-defining victories over the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya.

‘Money’ narrowly defeated De La Hoya via split decision to capture the WBC world light-middleweight title when they clashed at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas back in May of 2007.

It was reported earlier this week that Mayweather will actually make a return to the professional side of the sport after he faces heavyweight great Mike Tyson in a scheduled exhibition contest this spring. Then, days later, he announced his rematch with Pacquiao.

Speaking to the media recently, De La Hoya revealed that he is excited to see Mayweather return to the ring in what will be his first official outing since he fought McGregor just shy of ten years ago.

“Floyd, oh man. Floyd, come on. I’m not saying that [I want a rematch]. I’m just, I’m excited for him.”

Mayweather’s exhibition clash with Tyson was expected to take place in the Democratic Republic of Congo in April, although the full details of the American duo’s match-up are yet to be revealed and many are wondering if it will be canned due to the magnitude of the Pacquiao fight.
