Oscar De La Hoya has continued his ongoing feud with Canelo Alvarez.

De La Hoya guided the career of Canelo up until 2020, enjoying a successful relationship which saw the Mexican icon become a three-weight world champion at super-welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight.

A public falling out then led to Alvarez parting ways with Golden Boy Promotions, but Canelo has continued his success without De La Hoya, becoming undisputed super-middleweight champion.

He was stripped of that IBF belt last year but has the chance to win it back and become undisputed again when he meets William Scull in May, before Canelo then turns his attention to a showdown with fellow pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford in September.

While Canelo’s 2025 plans are currently laid out, there is one man that De La Hoya has advised his former protégé to stay well away from, telling Fight Hub TV that he should not face undisputed light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

“There is no way he beats Bivol. There is just no way. Styles make fights. As much as I would want to see a Mexican win inside that ring, there is no way he beats Bivol.”

Canelo and Bivol met at 175lbs back in May 2022, with Bivol winning the fight by unanimous decision to retain his WBA light heavyweight title and become just the second man after Floyd Mayweather to defeat Alvarez.

Bivol was crowned undisputed champion last month when he beat Artur Beterbiev in their rematch, after Beterbiev had won their first meeting back in October.

A rematch between Canelo and Bivol has been speculated ever since their initial bout, but Bivol may instead have to face an undefeated ‘monster’ next or potentially risk losing his undisputed status.
