Oscar De La Hoya Tells Gervonta Davis Exactly Who To Fight Next After Jake Paul Cancellation

Oscar De La Hoya has urged Gervonta Davis to pursue a clash with an unbeaten contender next.

Reigning WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ Davis has found himself in a difficult position in the last few weeks after his scheduled exhibition clash with Jake Paul was cancelled.

The 31-year-old from Baltimore was set to face Paul over ten rounds at the Kaseya Center in Miami on November 14, but the bout was scrapped after Davis landed himself in trouble once again.

It’s unknown what Davis now plans to do next, but legendary fighter-turned-promoter De La Hoya has revealed exactly who he thinks the three-weight world champion should be targeting a showdown with.

Posting on social media recently, ‘The Golden Boy’ called for a match-up between Davis and unbeaten American contender Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield, who is currently ranked at number one in the WBA’s lightweight rankings.

Schofield is unbeaten in 19 bouts since entering the paid ranks back in October 2020, with 13 of these victories coming inside the scheduled distance.

The 23-year-old from New Jersey returned to action on June 28 when he stopped former IBF super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Schofield was scheduled to return to the ring on November 8 but was forced to pull out of his scheduled clash with Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz after he suffered an injury to his wrist, which will leave him out of action until the end of the year.

It’s the second time this year that the prospect has been forced to withdraw from a fight, after his planned clash with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson back in February was cancelled on fight week after Schofield was hospitalised with an illness.
