Oscar De La Hoya has changed his mind when it comes to Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul.
There are less than two weeks to go until ‘Iron Mike’ faces Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday 15 November, in an event broadcast live on Netflix.
Boxing legend De La Hoya was initially against the bout as shown on Fight Hub TV, claiming that he didn’t like that it was happening.
“You [Paul] say you want to be a world champion. You say you want to take this sport serious then take it serious. This is not a popularity contest.
“I’m actually praising Jake Paul to take it serious because I really truly feel if he fights the right fights and takes the right path to the world title he can actually get there. it’s up to him if he wins it, but he can get there. But he’s not going to get there through Mike Tyson.
“He’s going to make a sh*t load of money and gain more popularity at Mike Tyson’s expense. Do I like it? No because I love Mike Tyson. I’m just concerned about his legacy.”
De La Hoya has now made a u-turn on his stance, revealing again to Fight Hub TV that he is now excited to see the fight.
“I’m actually looking forward to it. Jake Paul, he’s moving up, he’s becoming a better fighter, this fight here, the fact he’s focused and determined and he’s going up against the great Mike Tyson. It takes him to another level.
Tyson is still Tyson right, that never changes, he still has the power, the power never leaves you, your reflexes leave you, your speed a little, your conditioning.”
He also gave his thoughts on how the fight might go.
“If it’s before three, four rounds, I have to go with Tyson by knockout, that one punch knockout, if it goes past four rounds, I have to worry about Tyson’s conditioning, and where Jake Paul’s youth can take over. I’ve seen Jake Paul’s videos, he looks big, he looks huge. So whatever spray he’s taking, it’s working.”
De La Hoya isn’t the only one to change his mind on the fight, with fellow boxing legend Bernard Hopkins also altering his views.
