Oscar De La Hoya reportedly remains open to a sensational return to boxing.

The legendary fighter-turned-promoter had an exceptional professional career, which began back in 1992 after he captured an Olympic Gold Medal at the Summer Games in Barcelona.

‘The Golden Boy’ would go on to win world titles in no less than six weight divisions during his tenure, defeating the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Arturo Gatti, Hector Camacho and Ike Quartey amongst others.

After he was beaten by Manny Pacquiao in December 2008, De La Hoya would announce his retirement from the sport, shifting his focus to a career as a promoter under the ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ banner, a company he founded back in 2002.

He has enjoyed considerable success since he began his promotional career, where he has worked with the likes of Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins and Errol Spence amongst many others.

In an interview with Seconds Out, ‘The Golden Boy’ revealed the one fighter he would consider facing in a comeback to the sport – Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

“Hands down, Canelo.”

De La Hoya actually promoted Canelo during the earlier stages of the Mexican’s career between 2010 and 2020, before their relationship turned sour and the duo parted ways.

Canelo has gone on to work with both Premier Boxing Champions and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, although the 34-year-old from Guadalajara is currently being represented by Riyadh Season, as he prepares to lock horns with fellow pound-for-pound great Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford on September 13 in a defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship.
