Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez versus David Benavidez is one of the most sought-after fights in the sport of boxing.
Benavidez has been chasing Canelo for some years not, but the desire to fight hasn’t been reciprocated from the unified super-middleweight champion – so much so that Benavidez has now moved on and up to light-heavyweight to pursue belts there.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, two-weight world champion Andrade drew on his own experience in with Benavidez to confidently back him in a fight against Canelo.
“Yeah, I don’t think Canelo’s beating David at all. I don’t blame him not to fight David. Canelo, stay away from David. Don’t do it! Listen, I’m taller and longer than Canelo and I don’t know if Canelo… that’s a big boy, man. You gotta really have the right skillset, the movement, IQ, sharpness to beat David … At 168, that’s how you have to be to beat him.
Canelo’s smaller than me. I was able to push David around a few rounds, do what I had to do whatever, but that weight and his length – and he knows how to throw punches in bunches – it’s gonna be hard task for Canelo. David’s not somebody who’s gonna let up on you either. Canelo’s not beating him.”
Benavidez faces David Morrell in an intriguing light-heavyweight clash on February 1, with the winner a clear frontrunner to face the winner of the undisputed rematch between champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol later that month.
As for Canelo, he is set to begin entertaining offers for his next fight in January with a May return expected.
