A man who has declared himself ‘the most feared heavyweight’ has now called out Deontay Wilder for an all-American showdown.
After almost a year away from the ring, Wilder is due to return in June against Tyrrell Herndon in Wichita, Kansas. The last two outings have been torrid for the former WBC world champion and once-feared knockout artist. He was stopped in five by Zhile Zhang last June and beaten on points by Joseph Parker six months before that.
He is now in the latter stages of his career and desperately needs a win to get things back on track for more big nights under the lights.
One man happy to give him that is Jarrell Miller. ‘Big Baby’ first made headlines when he failed drugs tests in the lead-up to his fight with Anthony Joshua back in 2019, being pulled from the contest and subsequently suspended.
When cleared to fight, he built back up to the top level but was stopped by Daniel Dubois in the dying seconds of their 2023 fight to halt his momentum. A return against Andy Ruiz Jr last year looked to get him back on track, but the fight was controversially called a draw despite many feeling Miller should have had his hand raised.
Speaking to BoxNation, Miller explained that there had been some growing animosity between himself and Wilder over a woman, and stated his desire to settle it in the ring.
“I heard about [Wilder’s comeback] a few months ago. If we get past our fights maybe me and him could do a banger. A blockbuster … I mean, I’m about the paycheque, I still want to smash him, cause people want to see that fight.”
First up for Miller is British knockout artist Fabio Wardley for the WBA interim heavyweight title at the home of Ipswich Town on Saturday June 7.
