Deontay Wilder could be set for a massive clash in the near future.
Wilder returns to action for the first time in over a year on June 27 when he takes on Tyrell Herndon at the Charles Koch Arena in Kansas.
It sees ‘The Bronze Bomber’ attempting to get his career back on track after four defeats in his last five fights, having previously been the WBC heavyweight champion from 2015 to 2020.
One man that Wilder was continuously linked with during his time as champion was Anthony Joshua, who held the WBA, WBO and IBF belts at various stages during that same time period.
Despite huge clamour from boxing fans to see the heavyweight showdown, negotiations could never be agreed, but there is renewed optimism that it could potentially still take place provided Wilder wins his comeback later this month.
Those hopes have been given a boost after Wilder recently spoke on Inside Boxing Live, explaining that he would be more than willing to have the clash with ‘AJ.’
“I’m in it to win it. The heavyweight division is a small division so all of us can fight six, seven times because it’s so small. I’m in it to fight whoever, whenever, wherever. I’m a fighter. I have a fighter mentality. I have a king mentality. I don’t shy away from fights.
“As long as he’s in the division and I’m in the division, I’m always willing to fight whoever no matter what the situation is.”
Wilder than had a final message for Joshua.
“Let’s get it on.”
Joshua is currently recovering from elbow surgery and is expected to return before the end of 2025, meaning a fight could potentially indeed happen later this year.
