Deontay Wilder return to the ring this June, looking to win his low-level comeback fight before having one last crack at the very top of the division.
The 39-year-old knockout artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama will have been out for a year when he steps through the ropes against Tyrrell Herndon in Wichita on June 27. He is coming off back-to-back losses in Saudi Arabia, first being defeated on points by Joseph Parker and then knocked out by Zhilei Zhang.
Wilder has promised fans he has his ferocity back after looking particularly gun shy in both fights. One heavyweight who certainly raises a reaction is countryman Jarrell Miller, best know for being pulled from a fight with Anthony Joshua for failing doping tests but also for a brewing beef with Wilder that has never made it to the ring.
Miller – who has branded himself ‘the most feared heavyweight’ after struggling to land big names – recently said he would love to ‘smash’ the former WBC Champion and now, in an interview with TMZ, Wilder has responded.
“The only thing he’s smashing is burgers, and he barely do that well. With him, it’s all talk, talk, talk. But if that fight does land for him, I can’t wait for it. I hope he’s already paid for his grave burial. I don’t play around. If I saw him today I’d slap the f**k outta him right now. Deontay Wilder has returned. Everybody better respect the name.”
Miller returns to the ring on June 7 to face former British Heavyweight Champion Fabio Wardley at Portman Road Stadium, Ipswich. He is coming off the back of a controversial draw with Andy Ruiz Jr which many felt he won.
