Deontay Wilder is looking to get back under the bright lights after a low-key comeback win, and he may have just found his dance partner.

The knockout artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama suffered defeats to both Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang in Saudi Arabia, leaving many to feel retirement was looming. Instead, he returned and stopped Tyrell Herndon to dust off the cobwebs ahead of one last push at the big time.

A potential fight with Anthony Joshua remains, as well as some intriguing battles with fellow Americans. Another name in the mix is former UFC Heavyweight World Champion Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou recently said that he expected to soon enter talks with the former heavyweight champion, before taking to social media to call him out and settle a debate on who hits harder.

“It’s time to finally settle the debate Bronze Bomber.”

Though it took some days, Wilder has now responded, agreeing to take the fight with Ngannou.

“Respect, but I’m ten toes down. No fear, no fold, no fake. Always ready, always solid. Step in the ring and you’ll see what that means.”

Should a fight materialise from the trash talk, it would be Ngannou’s third pro bout after a successful MMA campaign. In his debut, he surprised fans by being competitive and even dropping Tyson Fury. The second effort was a reality check, suffering a particularly brutal second round stoppage to Anthony Joshua.

Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel, recently shut down the fight for 2025, though said it was possible next year.
