Deontay Wilder Offered Fast Track Back To Title Contention By Top Heavyweight Contender

Former long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been offered an opportunity to push towards another world title shot in the near future.

The 39-year-old from Alabama made his long-awaited return to the sport back in June as he defeated countryman Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in the 7th round of their non-title bout at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita.

Wilder had suffered back-to-back defeats to New Zealand’s Joseph Parker and Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang prior to his return to the ring against Herndon, racking up his first win in just shy of several years.

As he prepares to enter what could be the final chapter of his storied professional career, Wilder appears to have been offered the chance to face a world ranked contender next, as he pushes towards becoming a world heavyweight champion once again.

Speaking to Boxing Scene, Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller, who is ranked at number 6 with the WBA, claimed that he is still interested in a potential showdown with Wilder next, as he claims wants to ‘punch him in the face’.

“I’ve always had love for Deontay, but like I said, I still want to punch you in the face because you’re a champion. So based on that, that’s the reason why we got beef, because I looked at you as somebody looked up to in the division, but you, in my brain, you kind of like fell off of that championship pedestal because you following a bird.”

Miller has not fought since August of last year when his showdown with Andy Ruiz Jr was declared a majority decision draw. ‘Big Baby’ was in line to face Michael Hunter before the end of the year, but the fight fell through at the final hurdle due to a number of contractual issues.
