Deontay Wilder has been linked with a number of fighters, including Brits Dave Allen and Anthony Joshua.
Wilder has not fought since last June when he was stopped inside five by towering Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang. That came off the back of a points loss to Joseph Parker and two KO losses to Tyson Fury, with a quick win against Robert Helenius in between.
He returns this weekend against Tyrell Herndon in a must-win fight if he still has designs on getting back to the top level.
In the meantime, he has already been linked with potential fights later in the year with old foe Joshua, as well as the in-form Doncaster man, Allen, who just knocked out Johnny Fisher.
Speaking to Boxing News, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was asked about the rumours he may face Dave Allen in the near future, with promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealing he believes Wilder’s team to be seeking the fight out. That is news to ‘The Bronze Bomber’ himself, who said he has ‘no idea’ about the match-up.
“I don’t watch too much, I don’t watch too much TV, I’m not on social media, I don’t see too much, I’m in my own world, I don’t really keep up with much.
“Most of the time if something is going on, especially in boxing it’s cause someone else comes other me to tell me about it cause I would never hear it. Someone mentioned this before, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. We know Eddie say a lot of things, he talks a lot, he says a lot, but I haven’t heard anything about this.”
It seems like a fight with ‘The White Rhino’ isn’t on the cards anytime soon and ‘AJ’ seems much more realistic.
