Deontay Wilder has been discussing former foe Tyson Fury and what his future in the sport may look like.
Wilder and Fury are two of the biggest stars of the heavyweight division over the last decade. They will be forever linked in history for sharing three thrilling fights between 2018 and 2022.
The first one came after Fury had not long been back in the sport after years away battling mental health issues and addiction. It ended in a draw despite many thinking the Brit did enough to win, despite being put down hard in the final round.
The next two fights ended with Fury winning by KO, but in all there were 10 knockdowns across the three fights, which certainly took plenty out of both men.
Wilder has lost twice more since, first on points to Joseph Parker and then by stoppage at the hands of Zhilei Zhang. After two defences of the belt he won from the American, Fury most recently lost twice on points to Usyk and then retired in January.
Speaking recently to Inside Boxing Live, Wilder expressed his view that Fury is not yet done with boxing – agreeing with many fans, fellow fighters and analysts.
“How many times [has he retired]? What, 20 times? I don’t think he’s retired. Maybe it’s on ice a little bit, you know what I mean. We do this. Everybody is different. They do their own things. I don’t say things to get a reaction.”
Wilder returns this weekend, June 27, against Tyrell Herndon as he makes one more attempt to get back to the top of the division, while many hope that Fury will come back for an epic showdown with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.
