Tyson Fury is now in camp for the most important rematch of his career following his first defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

The Brit lost his WBC Heavyweight World Title to the Ukrainian back in May, surviving an onslaught in the ninth round but losing a split decision on the cards.

He had won the belt back in 2020 from long-reigning champion Deontay Wilder, who had up until that point knocked out every man he had been in the ring with. After a contentious draw in their first bout, Fury produced knockouts in the second and third instalments.

Speaking to Boxing News on the undisputed encounter between Fury and Usyk, Wilder said he felt that the Ukrainian deserved the stoppage during that thrilling ninth round.

“I thought it was a great fight, I was on the fence on things, I didn’t know who was going to win. I always think it’s what dog bring what bite to the fight and Oleksandr’s bite was bigger.

I think he got robbed of a knockout in the ninth round for sure. Gifts, gifts, gifts, were given.

At the end of the day Usyk won and big congratulations to him.”

On the rematch, Wilder backed Usyk to get the win again.

“The rematch, who knows, it’s all about what person brings what dog to the fight. Many times we have good days and we have bad days, you just never know.

If I had to pick I would say Usyk, but let’s see what happens.”

The fight takes place on December 21 out in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As for Wilder, things have gone from bad to worse since his Fury defeats. After a quick knockout of Robert Helenius, he lost back-to-back fights against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. His trainer, Malik Scott, has confirmed he will fight on.
