Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has reacted to the news that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally face each other in 2026.
It was reported earlier this week that the British heavyweight duo will lock horns in a long-awaited showdown on a huge Riyadh Season card next year.
Fury had actually announced his retirement from the sport following his rematch defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024 but the 37-year-old has been hinting at a potential comeback in recent weeks.
As for Joshua, the two-time unified heavyweight champion is just days away from making his return to the ring against Jake Paul in Miami, his first outing since he was beaten by Daniel Dubois in September of 2024.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Wilder, who had a trilogy with Fury over a number of years, admitted that whilst he is not in a position to predict the outcome of a clash between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Joshua, he says it should be a ‘fun fight’.
“I mean it should be a fun fight, you know? I don’t know who will win in that fight at the moment in time. I really haven’t processed it yet. I’ve been having a lot of stuff going on with myself but right now as I look at it, it should be a fun fight when it happens.”
Both Fury and Joshua are expected to have warm-up fights in the early stages of 2026, with reports suggesting that they will meet in September with an official announcement likely to be made in due course.
