Derek Chisora has shared messages he has exchanged with two heavyweights ahead of their upcoming clash.
As a veteran of the heavyweight ranks, Chisora knows a thing or two about what goes on inside and outside of the ropes. He is currently 49 fights into what he says will be a 50-fight career.
Who will fill the opposite corner for that final bout remains the be seen, with Chisora linked to the likes of Joseph Parker, Jarrell Miller and previously Dillian Whyte, which would be a trilogy. However, Whyte has instead opted to take on a rising star.
Next month, Whyte is back and taking on a man more than a decade younger in Moses Itauma – the 20-year-old who has won 11 of his 12 contests by KO.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, ‘Del Boy’ sounded a warning for Whyte and strongly believes Itauma will be victorious.
“There’s no light at the end of the tunnel, to be honest with you. I did message [Dillian] and said listen, I don’t know what you’re doing taking that fight. He said, ‘I don’t care, you’re not my friend.’
“I messaged Moses and said listen, fight him but don’t put him to sleep that badly, basically.
“I wish him all the best. I will be there to support it. But if that fight goes past four rounds, then we’re in trouble. Let’s be honest, you’re boxing a guy who’s 24 years old, got all his faculties right, getting trained by one of the best in the UK. Mate, you’ve got more chance of winning the lottery than beating Moses Itauma.”
A win for Itauma, as Chisora expects, very much increases his star power, while one for Whyte against the odds would mark a return to form and open up plenty of big fights.
