Derek Chisora is one of Britain’s most loved heavyweights.
Although he has never managed to win a world title, ‘Del Boy’ has a large and loyal fan base. His all-action style and ‘war’ catchphrase mean he is rarely in a dull fight.
He has been competing as a pro since 2007 and has had 47 bouts in all. He has won 34 of them, 23 by knockout, and last competed in August 2023 when he got a unanimous points win over American Gerald Washington.
Over his 17 years as a professional Chisora has shared the ring with the likes of Tyson Fury three times, Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker twice, David Haye, Kubrat Pulev, Oleksandr Usyk, David Price, Carlos Takam and many more, including Vitali Klitschko with whom he shared 12 hard rounds. Of his 13 losses, four have been by knockout, but several more have been stoppages.
With all that experience and a combined 324 professional rounds, he was asked by talkSPORT to name the hardest hitter he has ever faced.
“The Welsh Beef.”
The man he is talking about is Darren Morgan, a 6ft 1in heavyweight from Swansea who he beat on points in 2007 in just his third professional fight at York Hall. Morgan retired in 2014 with a record of 8-5 with six KOs.
Although many have called for his own retirement, but the now 40-year-old from Finchley is back in the ring this July when he takes on Joe Joyce. Joyce took back-to-back losses to Zhilei Zhang last year so is himself on a rebuild mission meaning a loss for either many would surely signal the end.
