Derek Chisora has had a little insight into Chris Eubank Jr.‘s sparring sessions ahead of his fight with Conor Benn.
Chisora has had plenty of his own high level grudge matches throughout his career, including against the likes of Dillian Whyte twice and three times with Tyson Fury. He has had 49 battles in all with just one left before he retires.
For Eubank and Benn, this is the biggest fight of their career so far, despite the fact that in Eubank’s case he has already fought for a legitimate world title and taken on former or future champions in James DeGale, George Groves and Billy Joe Saunders.
He is the naturally bigger man going into he contest but many think that it’s the aggression of the younger and more emotional Benn who presents the most danger early. Benn has previously stopped Chris van Heerden and Chris Algieri at 147 pounds in impression fashion, but amidst his doping controversy he moved up to 154 and went the distance twice.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, ‘Del Boy’ revealed that a fighter he works with has been sparring Eubank, giving an insight into the other corner’s preparation.
“I want Conor to win, but it’s gonna be a hard fight for both fighters. I had a guy sparring Chris, yeah, and they [told me] Chris is not doing so much work, but when he hits you with his combinations, he doesn’t throw one shot or three shots, he throws seven shots, and they all land.”
Chisora passed on making a prediction for the fight.
Eubank faces a rehydration clause that means he cannot put on more than 10lbs from the weigh in to the morning of the fight, which takes place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.
