Tyson Fury will run it back with Oleksandr Usyk after suffering his first professional defeat, and three-time opponent Derek Chisora has some words of advice.
Fury found good success against the Ukrainian technician in the middle rounds of their undisputed championship fight, but was ultimately undone by his opponent’s pinpoint accuracy and seemingly endless engine.
Usyk overcame some heavy shots to hurt Fury like no man has before in the ninth round, the knockdown being crucial in his split decision win on the cards.
He confirmed that he would honour the contracted rematch with the Brit, and Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh has now confirmed that it will take place on December 21.
Chisora – who many feel had some successes of his own when he fought and lost to Usyk back in 2020 – says the current version of Fury is ‘too soft.’
“We need to get the old Tyson back. That mean guy. Right now Tyson’s just too soft. The Tyson we saw in Vegas? Bad ass.”
The Vegas residency ‘Del Boy’ refers to is Fury’s final two fights with Deontay Wilder, the hard-hitting American who was previously undefeated.
His stoppage streak continued for two more fights – Dillian White and Chisora himself – before he logged a below-par performance against MMA star and boxing debutant Francis Ngannou.
The 35-year-old looked much more like the skilled operator fans know when he faced Usyk this month, but that wasn’t enough to take the victory.
