Derek Chisora is a much-loved British heavyweight who is rarely in anything other than entertaining fights.
Over his long career, ‘Del Boy’ has been involved in plenty of huge shows. His record stands at 48 bouts, 35 wins, 23 by knockout, and 13 losses. He has publicly stated that he wants to make it to 50 fights before retiring.
In the past, Chisora has picked up the British and Commonwealth titles with wins over Danny Williams and Sam Sexton back in 2010, though he has never won a world title.
The 40-year-old has faced Tyson Fury three times – the last of which was for the WBC belt – and lost all three contests. He gave Oleksandr Usyk a good run for his money back in 2020 when the Ukrainian was just stepping up to heavyweight and is now coming off an impressive points win over Joe Joyce.
Rumours that his 49th fight will be against controversial American heavyweight Jarrell Miller have now been confirmed by Dan Rafael, who has also revealed that the target date for the Manchester event is February 8. It will be promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.
Miller drew with Andy Ruiz Jr in his last fight having lost to Daniel Dubois by KO before that in December, though he is best known for failing a doping test ahead of his clash with Anthony Joshua in June 2019.
Both heavyweights are well known for their entertaining press conferences and all-action style in the ring, so this, despite some calls for Chisora to retire, is expected to be a popular scrap.
Responding to the news on X, one fan said that the fight week will be worth the watch in itself. Another said the pair are ‘made for each other’ whilst the consensus on the in-ring action was that it was be a slugfest from start to finish.
Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has already made his prediction. He believes ‘Big Baby’ Miller will knock Chisora out.
