Two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a car accident on Monday morning which tragically left two people dead.
It comes just days after the 36-year-old from Watford stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round of their controversial heavyweight clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
The incident occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the city of Makun in Nigeria at approximately 11am local time on Monday morning. ‘AJ’ had reportedly been travelling from Lagos to his family home
It has been confirmed that Joshua had suffered minor injuries following the accident, although it has been revealed that two unnamed individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple videos on social media showed that Joshua had to be pulled from the vehicle and has since been transported to a local hospital, although the 36-year-old is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
As reported by The Mirror, a statement has now been released by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria:
“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.”
“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.”
Members of Joshua’s family have also spoken out and expressed their shock at the incident and have wished a speedy recovery to those who were involved in the tragic incident.
