Newly-crowned WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney appears to be closing in on an intriguing unification showdown.

The unbeaten American star made his long-awaited return to action back in November when he outclassed countryman Brian Norman Jr over 12-rounds to capture the WBO world welterweight title.

Haney floored Norman in the second round of their clash in Riyadh and would go on to get the nod on all three of the judges scorecards to become a world champion in a third weight division.

He previously reigned as undisputed lightweight champion and also held the WBC super-lightweight crown, and now looks to dominate the 147lb division.

As rumours begin to circulate about what could be next for Haney, the 27-year-old from California has issued an interesting update on a potential unification clash with WBA world welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

In a recent social media post, Haney revealed that his father and trainer Bill has spoken to Romero’s manager Luis about a future clash between the American duo.

“My father spoke with Luis (Rollys manager) rumors are true.. let’s see if we can get this done inshaAllah”

Romero is yet to return to action since he produced a career best performance over Ryan Garcia last May to capture the WBA ‘Regular’ world welterweight title at Times Square in New York.

The 30-year-old from Las Vegas was later elevated to full WBA world champion after former title holder Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis opted to vacate the belt ahead of his move up to super-welterweight.
