Devin Haney has set his sights on unifying the welterweight division just days after his world title triumph over Brian Norman Jr.

The unbeaten 27-year-old from California put on an outstanding display against his countryman last Saturday, defeating him via unanimous decision at the ANB Arena in Riyadh to capture the WBO world welterweight title.

Haney had been the subject of intense criticism after his underwhelming performance against Jose Ramirez back in May, but ‘The Dream’ was able to use his experience against the hard-hitting Norman to prove his doubters wrong and become a three-weight world champion.

As rumours begin to circulate about what could be on the horizon for Haney, it appears that the 27-year-old is already targeting another world title shot at 147lbs.

Speaking on a social media post, Haney’s father and trainer Bill put his son forward for a unification clash with reigning WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero next.

“Ryan lost to Rolly on May 20. Now he’s fighting Barrios in February. Rolly hasn’t fought since May and Devin just became champion in the same division. So why wait on Ryan again? Devin can fight Rolly “NOW”, same day, same card, unification. True or False?”

Romero was last in action on May 2 when he put on a career best performance against Ryan Garcia to win the WBA regular welterweight title, although he has since been elevated to full world champion after Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis vacated the belt.

It has been suggested by multiple sources that ‘Rolly’ could actually be in line to face Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao next, although it remains to be seen whether this intriguing clash will come to fruition.
