Devin Haney vs Teofimo Lopez Fight Off: “I Signed But He Ducked Me”

The Devin Haney vs Teofimo Lopez fight may not be happening after all.

It had been reported that the two men were set to go up against one another in Saudi Arabia in August in a 145lb catchweight bout.

Haney had originally been set to take on Ryan Garcia in a rematch after they had originally met back in April 2024, with ‘King Ry’ dropping his opponent several times on his way to a points victory.

That result was overturned though and ruled a no contest after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance in the aftermath of the bout, receiving a 12 month ban in the process.

Garcia returned in May at Times Square where he took on Rolly Romero, on the same card as Haney facing Jose Ramirez, where victories for both men would have then led to a rematch between the pair later this year.

Haney defeated Ramirez, but Garcia suffered a surprise defeat to Romero, dashing hopes of the rematch and meaning that Haney had now seemingly turned to a showdown with Lopez.

Lopez also competed on that Times Square card, defending Arnold Barboza by unanimous decision to retain his WBO super-lightweight title, with fans believing that the clash with Haney was now a done deal to happen next.

Haney has disputed that though, as he claimed on social media on Tuesday that the fight wasn’t yet official and that Lopez is ducking him.

“The fight with Teo is not signed! I signed my part & Teo has been stalling. As of today he has decided he doesn’t wanna fight me he is officially the biggest πŸ¦†πŸ‘ŽπŸ½ πŸ…

“& I wanted the fight at 147 he wanted the fight at 140 we negotiated to meet at 145 even though he was willing to fight boots at 147.”

Lopez is yet to comment himself on the claims made by Haney, but it could be another big fight that has unfortunately fallen by the wayside.
