Dillian Whyte is just hours away from his fight with Moses Itauma, and sparring stories are starting to circulate.
Whyte looks in terrific shape for what is a crossroads fight in his career. Having fought just twice in the last three years, he needs a big win to get him back into the conversation at the top of the division.
It was a positive drug test just ahead of an ill-fated rematch with Anthony Joshua in 2022 that kept him out of action while he cleared his name, and he has now done that, having proved it was the result of a contaminated supplement.
On Saturday, he takes on Itauma, a man who is just 20 years old and is in fine forming, having stopped 10 of his 12 opponents so far, the last three of them inside the first three rounds.
The young fighter has been much hyped by many in boxing, including Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, who have both named him a future world champion.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Whyte was asked about the rumours heard by heavyweights Jarrell Miller and Shannon Briggs that Itauma has been dropped in sparring.
“I don’t know and I don’t care.
I’m not focussed on him I’m focussed on myself. Im being the best version I can. Im a grown arse man, I’m not a child running around.
Sparring stories is sparring stories. Marvin Hagler used to get dropped a lot in sparring, never got dropped in the ring. Sparring stories is sparring stories. Sometimes you got four guys in camp they’re doing two rounds on two rounds, off, you’re losing weight, you’re doing this, your doing that. F**k it, were gunna have a fight, I don’t give a damn about all that stuff, man.”
Rumours like this often come out but have no bearing on the fight itself. Whoever comes out on top on the night will likely shoot up the rankings and be in the picture for some huge fights in 2026.
