Dillian Whyte has been up close and personal with Moses Itauma in the ring, but not for long.
Whyte is a heavyweight veteran who has proven his toughness over 35 fights, winning 31 and knocking out 21 of the men he has faced.
However, last time out he came up against the fast-rising 20-year-old Itauma, who extended this record to 13 wins from 13 when he stopped Whyte inside the first two minutes of their fight. It was his 11th KO win and 9th stoppage inside the first two rounds.
Over two months on from that bout, Whyte has now shared his verdict, as speaking to Boxing King Media, ‘The Bodysnatcher’ was humble about his loss.
“It was what it was. There were a couple of things that went wrong but it is what it is. This is heavyweight boxing man and I got caught and that’s it. It’s heavyweight boxing. Nothing to take away from Moses, a good fighter, young prospect, how much younger is he than me? Sh*t happens. “
He was then asked about Itauma’s power.
“The fight didn’t go long enough for me to know. He wasn’t as fast as what I thought he was. But once he caught me he didn’t let me off, he just threw and threw. I got up and was OK to carry on but the referee called it so what can I do.”
Whyte is strongly expected to be the 50th and final opponent of Derek Chisora before he bows out of the sport. They have fought twice before, with Whyte winning both – once on points, and one by KO.
