Dillian Whyte has been looking forward to the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
Whyte is a former world title challenger who has fought the likes of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and is known for usually being in entertaining fights. He makes a return to the ring on June 7 on the undercard of Fabio Wardley’s fight with Justis Huni at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road stadium.
A month later, on July 19, Dubois gets a second shot at Usyk. He is on a good run right now after stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua, though he has previously been knocked out by Usyk back in August 2023.
The rematch at Wembley represents ‘DDD’s chance at becoming undisputed champion as his IBF belt will be on the line along with the WBO, WBC and WBA straps that the Ukrainian already owns, having beaten Joshua and Fury twice each since 2021.
Speaking to iFL TV, Whyte had praise for both men and couldn’t pick a winner.
“I think it’s a very good fight because obviously they met before, you just have to see what Dubois turns up and what Usyk turn up. Usyk is very consistent, Dubois has been consistent lately, but he’s had some inconsistency in his career as well.
“Obviously the two ones that stick out is against Usyk and Joe Joyce. But Usyk, there are fights where he’s been hurt and wobbled and stuff but he’s such a consistent professional, but Dubois has got power and he’s got confidence and right now he’s flying high at the minute so it’s hard to pick a winner right now.”
Whichever of the two men does come out on top will immediately be instructed to negotiate a fight with WBO mandatory and former world champion Joseph Parker, who has also been linked with a rematch against Whyte in the interim period.
