Dmitry Bivol Was The Last Man To Beat Canelo And Finally Answers If Crawford Can Do The Same

Dmitry Bivol was the last man to beat Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

He is one of only two men to have got the better of the Mexican across his whole 65-fight career so far, the other being generational great Floyd Mayweather many years ago.

Bivol soundly beat ‘Canelo’ over 12 rounds back in 2022 by using his textbook boxing techniques, great footwork and controlling the fight with his jab from distance. The win meant he retained his WBA light-heavyweight title and next time out faces Artur Beterbiev in an undisputed fight in Saudi Arabia with a huge undercard in October.

Speaking to FightHub TV, he was asked how a much-talked-about potential fight between his former foe and Terence Crawford might go.

“I remember when I came to the boxing gym one of the first lessons I learnt was you should respect weight classes. But Terence is one of my favourite active fighters. He has good skills, very good skills, maybe he could show us something. He knows already what to do, his coach knows, they will find a solution how to do it.”

He was then asked outright if he thought Crawford could win.

“I can imagine it.”

Speaking to Seconds Out, he also suggested Crawford’s ring IQ is higher than Canelo’s.

“I could tell you that Crawford is one of the best fighters in the world right now. I see him with more boxing IQ.”

For his part, Crawford seems intent only on facing ‘Canelo’ next despite the other offers that have been put on the table including Vergil Ortiz and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
