Dmitry Bivol has voiced his opinion on the potential mega fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
Bivol is one of only two men to beat Canelo inside the ropes, with the other being all time great Floyd Mayweather Jr. Canelo moved up to light-heavyweight in 2022 to challenge the Russian for his WBA title but was comfortably outpointed on the night.
Another man looking to add his name to the list of those who have defeated Canelo is pound-for-pound star Crawford. ‘Bud’ became a four-weight champion in his last outing when he outpointed Israil Madrimov on his 154lb debut – a clash against the Mexican would require a further two weight class jump.
With Canelo seemingly starting talks with Turki Alalshikh for the fight, it’s now a real possibility fans could see two of the biggest stars in the sport collide in 2025.
Speaking to FightHub TV, Bivol gave his thoughts about the potential clash, saying that weight classes must be respected.
“I remember when I came to the boxing gym one of the first lessons I learnt was you should respect weight classes. But Terence is one of my favourite active fighters. He has good skills, very good skills, maybe he could show us something. He knows already what to do, his coach knows, they will find a solution how to do it.”
He was then asked outright if he thought Crawford could come out victorious and summed up his chances by saying.
“I can imagine it.”
The boxing world awaits news on whether a deal can get over the line.
