Dmitry Bivol was the last man to defeat Canelo Alvarez.

The two men met back in May 2022, with the WBA light heavyweight title on the line, with Canelo heading in as the undisputed super-middleweight champion as he stepped up from 168lbs for the fight.

Canelo was the favourite for the contest, but Bivol pulled off the upset by claiming a unanimous decision victory, becoming just the second man since Floyd Mayweather in 2013 to defeat Canelo.

Since their meeting, Canelo has remained the top dog at super-middleweight, while Bivol went on to have an undisputed title fight against Artur Beterbiev in October, where Beterbiev won by majority decision.

They will meet again in Saudi Arabia this weekend, where a victory for Bivol could lead to a future rematch with Canelo, after the Mexican superstar recently signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season.

With a potential clash with Alvarez on the horizon, Bivol needed just three words when asked by Manouk Akopyan if a second meeting with Canelo interests him.

“I don’t care.”

He then explained why he isn’t thinking about Canelo at the moment.

“[It’s] not exciting at all to be honest. I’m not thinking about it. I don’t care when I will have a fight after February 22 [or] who will be my opponent. I’m not excited about anything. I’m just excited about February 22.”

Canelo already has his next two fights lined up, facing William Scull in May before he’s then set to take on Terence Crawford in May, while Bivol’s next fight if he defeats Beterbiev this weekend has also already been reported.
