Don Charles has given his view on the potential fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Fabio Wardley.

Wardley earned the right to fight for the undisputed title when he beat former world champion Joseph Parker by late round knockout to secure his position has mandatory challenger to the great Ukrainian.

However, Usyk instead decided to vacate his WBO strap, which saw Wardley get elevated to full champion late last year.

The Ipswich man has still said he would be keen on the contest, but has also said he would be up for any big fight with the likes of Tyson Fury or Moses Itauma.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, respected trainer Charles was asked how Wardley might get on with the Ukrainian if they were to fight.

“Interesting, it’s not a foregone conclusion. Styles, desire, punch power. One thing about Fabio, he will let his hands go. I don’t want to bring back the past but I will, momentarily.

“The first fight Daniel had in Poland with Usyk, he can be hit. Then, apart from Daniel and that incident, who else has given Usyk trouble? Derek Chisora did. So Fabio Wardley technically has more. Usyk is not young anymore, he’s beaten everybody in good style, I wouldn’t bet against Fabio if he was to get the fight.”

Usyk has shown more interest in a big fight with former WBC champion but long past his best fighter Deontay Wilder, who has lost to Parker, Zhilei Zhang and Tyson Fury in recent years.
