Daniel Dubois is arguably the most in form heavyweight outside of unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The 27-year-old is on an incredible run that has seen him stop Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in his last three fights and has captured and retained the IBF world title along the way.
However, one man who feels he has his number after sparring the Brit is top ranked heavyweight Martin Bakole.
Speaking to iFLV TV Bakole, who is coming off a stoppage win over highly rated American Jared Anderson, claimed he broke Dubois’ nose and stopped him in the gym.
“I broke his nose twice and stopped him. That’s not a lie. He will never come say I’m lying.
Joe Joyce the same, you see the video I posted. I feel bad to post some stuff like that because it can happen to me as well in sparring in the camp.”
These claims were backed up by his trainer Billy Nelson who told Seconds Out that his fighter made ‘DDD’ quit in the ring.
“It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Daniel vacated rather than fight Martin as well. They’ve been in the ring with each other before. Martin will obliterate Daniel Dubois.
Martin wasn’t fully fit when he sparred Daniel, about 70% fit, and schooled him. Stopped him, made him quit and broke his nose. It’s fact. Martin’s already told people what happened. I was there. Barry McGuigan was there. I’m not telling lies.”
The two fighters are on course to face each other in the ring, with Bakole challenging Efe Ajagba in May in an eliminator for Daniel Dubois’ IBF belt. It will give the champion the chance to disprove the sparring tales – something his promoter Frank Warren is adamant his man will do – once and for all.
First up, Dubois has his hands full in February when he takes on another inform fighter in Joseph Parker.
