The fallout has continued following Daniel Dubois being beaten by Oleksandr Usyk last month.
Dubois lost his IBF heavyweight title after a fifth round knockout defeat to Usyk at Wembley Stadium in July, with the Ukrainian becoming undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time in the process.
‘DDD’ received some criticism from some fans following the loss, after it transpired that a pre-fight party had taken place at his home on the day of the fight.
Others also raised the question of whether he gave up in the bout against Usyk, after getting dropped and staying down for the count of 10, before then immediately rising and returning to his corner.
Changes were made in the aftermath of the defeat, with assistant trainer Kieran Farrell departing the team, whilst Sam Jones was brought in to help guide the career of Dubois moving forward.
Another major change has now been revealed, after it was confirmed that Dubois has split from head trainer Don Charles.
Dubois and Charles have worked together for several years, beginning with the first fight against Usyk in Poland in August 2023. Their partnership began after ‘DDD’ had split with trainer Shane McGuigan earlier that summer.
Usyk claimed a ninth round stoppage win over the Brit in that August 2023 bout, and while it meant the first fight where ‘DDD’ and Charles worked together may have ended in a loss, three big wins soon followed.
Dubois claimed knockout victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, earning the IBF heavyweight title in the process.
Their relationship has now come to an end though, with Dubois looking elsewhere to get his career back on track and return to the heights that saw him capture world honours.
That is set to come with another well-known trainer, as Dubois will be joining forces with Tony Sims instead. Sims is the long-time trainer of Conor Benn, and has also worked with fighters such as Ricky Burns, Joe Cordina and John Ryder over the years.
‘DDD’ isn’t the only heavyweight to join the Sims stable in recent weeks, with Johnny Fisher also heading there as he looks to re-build his career following his loss to Dave Allen.
