Daniel Dubois has had his say on the controversial fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
This eight-round fight in Arlington, Texas divided the boxing world as many worried for the safety of the former undisputed heavyweight champion. Tyson is almost 60 and hasn’t fought professionally for almost 20 years, while Paul is still young although relatively inexperienced.
Speaking to Bricks to Riches, the current IBF ruler Dubois was asked about the fight and had nothing but praise for ‘Iron Mike.’
“Mike Tyson’s a winner either way. To earn 20 million at his age just cause of his name and what he did in the past. Credit to him, he’s a legend in the sport. If Jake wants it with me he can get it too.”
Asked about the social media rumours that the fight was ‘scripted’ and ‘fake’, the 27-year-old champion did not agree.
“I think it was real. Like I said, Mike’s a winner either way. He’s nearly 60 years old, what do you expect?”
Dubois then addressed the fact that he had sent Paul a message offering him a shot at the heavyweight throne. It was put to him that he would get the knockout in round one.
“Of course, but it would be a historical moment, wouldn’t it? I wouldn’t take no one lightly. If a man has a chance to become world champion, if he’s smart, he’ll go to town and be the best version of himself.”
Paul has since said he doesn’t want the fight just now but will down the line.
Fans would much rather see Dubois have a rematch with Anthony Joshua or go on to battle for undisputed honours by unifying with the winner of the upcoming rematch between three belt champion Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
He is next out on February 22 with an opponent set to be announced soon.
