Daniel Dubois has taken punches from both Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury inside the squared circle.
Dubois burst onto the scene as a huge and heavy-hitting teenage heavyweight. After a good run early on, he was derailed by a stoppage loss to Joe Joyce. That fight ended after Dubois took a knee due to sustained damage to his eye from Joyce’s ram-rob jab.
After a building back process, Dubois took on Usyk in August 2023 for the unified heavyweight titles out in Poland. Despite starting well and having the Ukrainian down in the fifth with what was ruled a low-bow, he ended up being stopped himself inside nine rounds.
He has also shared many sparring rounds with former WBC king Fury and, speaking to The Ring Magazine, he was recently asked to compare the power of Fury and Usyk, opting for smaller man in Usyk.
“Usyk.”
Usyk and Fury have shared 24 rounds together, with each man hurting the other, though Usyk’s success in the first fight to rock and wobble Fury all over the ring was much more substantial.
With the first victory, Usyk because undisputed champion. He dropped the IBF belt – picked up by Dubois – before winning the rematch. He now has sights set on running it back with Dubois to become two-time undisputed champion in the division, three-time overall when including his run at cruiserweight.
As for Fury, he announced his retirement a month on from his second Usyk defeat and has shown no signs of changing his mind.
